Lagos – Mrs Aderonke Sobodu, the Managing Director, Spronks Creations Ltd., on Wednesday warned consumers of alcohol to drink responsibly and not to abuse its intake.Sobodu, the organiser of the yearly Nigeria International Wine and Spirit Fair, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that excess consumption of alcohol “is dangerous to health”.“People consuming alcohol, especially Nigerians need to be cautious about the way they consume alcohol.“Most Nigerians don’t drink responsibly; they lack the culture of responsible alcohol intake. There are ways you take alcohol and you will be responsible, “ Sobodu said.According to her, the company would soon embark on aggressive awareness campaign to educate people on how to drink alcohol responsibly.“You don’t have to abuse alcohol intake and turn yourself into a nuisance in the society, there are ways you drink responsibly.“We are not kicking against intake of alcohol but we are educating and enlightening people on how to drink responsibly,“she said.Sobodu advised the national and multinational wines and spirit distributers and producers to stop organising a `promo party` that would not benefit consumers.“Most distributors organise promo parties for consumers and get them drunk all in the name of promoting their brands, most especially the youth, they get drunk and die.“ This idea is wrong, there are different ways you can promote your brands without getting the consumers drunk.“Those companies should come up with educative and other events that will make meaning in the society and also contribute to the social well-being of the people,“ she said. The managing director said that the consumption of wine and spirit in the country was valued at over N577 million.
